Output

Standard output

The following standard output sets are for use in tables published by Statistics New Zealand (Statistics NZ). Note: this does not include customised output requested by clients or descriptive information in statistics NZ publications. Totals and sub–totals may be included in tables as subject matter areas see fit.

Year of arrival – lower category aggregation (1999)

This output set is the same as the classification for year of arrival, however the first 30 input variable categories aggregate to form an ‘arrived before’ category in order to protect the confidentiality of these respondents. For the 1999 version of the code this aggregation creates the category 'arrived before 1908'.

The full classification is available in Download of classification.

Year of arrival – five year time periods (1999)

This output set consists of nine standard 5–year time periods preceded by an open–ended time period. A final sequence of five single years is required.

The residual categories may be output separately or combined. Where a combination item of residuals is to be used in output, this item should be labelled ‘not elsewhere included’ and should have a footnote indicating its composition.

Years since arrival – top category aggregation (1999)

This output set is the same as the classification for years since arrival, however the top input variable categories aggregate to form a ‘90 years or more’ category in order to protect the confidentiality of these respondents.

The full classification is available in Download of classification.

Years since arrival – 5 year time periods This output set consists of an initial sequence of five single years followed by standard 5–year time periods. A final open ended time period is required, in this example '50 years or more'. 0 Years

Not Elsewhere Included Output sets for ‘years since arrival in New Zealand’ should be accompanied by an explanatory note indicating that ‘years since arrival in New Zealand’ is calculated identically to ‘duration of residence’ in the 1996 Census of Population and Dwellings and is therefore directly comparative. The residual categories may be output separately or combined. Where a combination item of residuals is to be used in output, this item should be labelled ‘not elsewhere included’ and should have a footnote indicating its composition.
