Statistics New Zealand’s relationship between members in a private dwelling variable is consistent with the United Nations' recommendations for the relationship variable. The Statistics NZ standard classification for relationship contains a greater level of detail than the United Nations equivalent. This is because Statistics NZ’s relationship standard is used to derive other complex statistical standards for households and families, such as family type, household composition, and extended families.
