Perceived personal discrimination

Why is this important for social statistics?

We measure this because freedom from discrimination is vital to democracy. People and groups who are discriminated against may not be able to participate fully in society. Discrimination also affects mental and physical well-being.   

This indicator measures the proportion of people aged 15 years and over who were discriminated against in the past 12 months. That is, people who were treated unfairly or had something nasty done to them because of the group they belonged to, or seemed to belong to.
