How we identified Māori authorities

  1. Do you support our working definition of Māori authorities as a useful starting point?
  2. Can you suggest any different criteria for the definition other than those in this consultation paper?
  3. What are your views on including businesses owned 50/50 in the data?
  4. What are your views on the Business Frame business rules used to populate the Māori business indicator in business groups?
  5. What are your views on including ‘By Māori, for Māori, as Māori’ entities5 in our statistics?
  6. What other administrative data sources could be used to identify Māori authorities or Māori businesses?

Initial data about Māori authorities

  1. Of the data from section C, what is most likely to be useful for you?
    1. Business demographics – size, geographical location, industry
    2. Business position and performance – assets and liabilities, income and expenditure
    3. Labour market dynamics – filled jobs, job turnover
  2. International connectedness – exports and imports, international investment.
  3. What other priority information needs do you have – from existing Statistics NZ data collections?

Future concepts

The following questions ask for your views about concepts important to Māori business, where information does not currently exist. Feedback provided now will help us develop these concepts in latter phases of the research project.

  1. What other information areas (such as environmental, social (iwi, hāpu), cultural) would you like to see this kind of data cross referenced with?
  2. What geographical breakdowns would you like to see (eg by rohe proxy, territorial local authority, firm size, or business type)?
