Key facts

At 30 June 2017:

  • Fibre connections increased 67 percent (to 397,000) from June 2016, to make up 21 percent of all broadband connections.
  • 3,847,000 mobile phones were connected to the internet over the cellular network, up 11 percent from June 2016.
  • Over 60 percent of all broadband internet connections had no data cap, compared with only 5 percent in 2013.

For June 2017:

  • Broadband connections used 275,579,000 gigabytes of data, up 93 percent from June 2016.
  • Mobile phones used 6,453,000 gigabytes of data over the cellular network, more than twice as much as in June 2016.
