Find out how to get data and information about income now we no longer run the New Zealand Income Survey (NZIS).
Income data now collected by Household Labour Force Survey
From June 2016, most of the content previously contained in NZIS is integrated into the Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS). We will continue to ask wage and salary, self-employment, and government transfer income questions each year in the June quarter’s HLFS. We no longer collect income from private transfers and investments.
We still collect household income and income from all sources in the Household Economic Survey. The next release of household statistics will be on 24 November 2016.
See Future of the New Zealand Income Survey for details about what we will collect in HLFS and what we have changed.
HLFS redeveloped in 2016
We have redeveloped the HLFS, to make the first substantial change since 1985. See:
Labour Market Statistics (Income) is a new release
We will publish the first Labour Market Statistics (Income) release (for the June 2016 quarter) on 7 October 2016. We plan to release the income data on the first Friday of October each year.
Income tables in NZ.Stat
From June 2016, we will release all income tables through NZ.Stat. See the new list of NZ.Stat tables below.
Using NZ.Stat you can select the variables of interest and customise your own tables.
Note: As we no longer collect income from private transfers and investments, ‘income’ in tables 1, 2, and 11 refers to income from wages and salaries, self-employment, government transfers, and ACC.
We will no longer publish three NZIS tables: ‘Income for people not in paid employment’, ‘Income for people in paid employment’, and ‘Personal income distribution, by quintile’.
