Food Price Index: September 2015

Monthly change

Food prices fell 0.5 percent in the September 2015 month. After seasonal adjustment, food prices rose 0.1 percent.

In September 2015 compared with August 2015:

  • Fruit and vegetable prices fell 5.0 percent (down 0.1 percent after seasonal adjustment).
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 1.8 percent.
  • Grocery food prices rose 0.2 percent (also up 0.2 percent after seasonal adjustment). 
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 0.6 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.2 percent.

Annual change

Food prices increased 0.7 percent in the year to September 2015.

From September 2014 to September 2015:

  • Fruit and vegetable prices increased 5.3 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices increased 0.7 percent.
  • Grocery food prices decreased 1.5 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices decreased 0.3 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices increased 2.0 percent.
