Food Price Index: September 2010

Highlights

In September 2010 compared with August 2010:

  • Food prices rose 0.7 percent.
  • Grocery prices rose 1.2 percent.  
  • Fruit and vegetable prices rose 2.6 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 0.7 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices fell 0.1 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices fell 1.0 percent.

From September 2009 to September 2010:

  • Food prices increased 1.3 percent. This rise follows four consecutive months of annual falls in food prices.
