Monthly change

Food prices fell 0.2 percent in the November 2015 month. After seasonal adjustment, food prices rose 0.3 percent.

In November 2015 compared with October 2015:

  • Fruit and vegetable prices fell 3.8 percent (down 0.6 percent after seasonal adjustment).
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 1.6 percent.
  • Grocery food prices fell 0.1 percent (down 0.3 percent after seasonal adjustment). 
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 0.6 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.1 percent.

Annual change

Food prices decreased 0.2 percent in the year to November 2015.

From November 2014 to November 2015:

  • Fruit and vegetable prices increased 2.3 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices decreased 0.2 percent.
  • Grocery food prices decreased 3.2 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices increased 2.8 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices increased 1.9 percent.

 Average prices

  • The average price of breakfast biscuits was $6.16 per kilo in November 2015, compared with $5.53 in October 2015 and $6.28 in November 2014.
  • The average price of tomatoes was $2.84 per kilo in November 2015, compared with $5.69 in October 2015 and $3.47 in November 2014.
