Food Price Index: May 2013

Key facts

In May 2013 compared with April 2013:

  • Food prices rose 0.3 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices rose 2.1 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 0.5 percent.
  • Grocery food prices rose 0.1 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 0.9 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.2 percent.

From May 2012 to May 2013:

  • Food prices decreased 0.1 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices increased 0.9 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices increased 0.9 percent.
  • Grocery food prices decreased 1.2 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices decreased 0.5 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices increased 0.7 percent.
