Food Price Index: May 2010

Highlights

In May 2010 compared with April 2010:

  • Food prices fell 0.7 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices fell 2.4 percent.
  • Grocery food prices fell 0.7 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetables prices fell 2.1 percent.  
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.3 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 1.5 percent.

From May 2009 to May 2010:

  • Food prices decreased 0.5 percent. This is the first annual fall in food prices since the year to July 2004.
