Food Price Index: July 2015

Monthly change

Food prices rose 0.6 percent in the July 2015 month. After seasonal adjustment for items such as lettuce and tomatoes, food prices rose 0.5 percent.

In July 2015 compared with June 2015:

  • Fruit and vegetable prices rose 3.0 percent (up 0.6 percent after seasonal adjustment).
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 1.3 percent.
  • Grocery food prices fell 0.1 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 0.1 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices remained unchanged.

Annual change

Food prices increased 1.2 percent in the year to July 2015.

From July 2014 to July 2015:

  • Fruit and vegetable prices increased 5.7 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices increased 1.5 percent.
  • Grocery food prices decreased 1.5 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices increased 3.9 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices increased 1.9 percent.
