Food Price Index: July 2010

Highlights

In July 2010 compared with June 2010:

  • Food prices rose 1.6 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices rose 8.7 percent.  
  • Grocery food prices rose 1.2 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 0.5 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices rose 0.3 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 1.1 percent.

From July 2009 to July 2010:

  • Food prices decreased 1.0 percent; the first time in ten years that there have been three consecutive annual falls in food prices.
