Food Price Index: December 2012

Key facts

In December 2012 compared with November 2012:

  • Food prices fell 0.2 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices rose 0.7 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 0.9 percent.
  • Grocery food prices fell 0.2 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices fell 2.8 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices showed no overall change.

From December 2011 to December 2012:

  • Food prices decreased 1.0 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices increased 6.0 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices decreased 2.1 percent.
  • Grocery food prices decreased 3.6 percent.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices decreased 1.2 percent.
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices increased 0.6 percent.
