Food Price Index: August 2010

Highlights

In August 2010 compared with July 2010:

  • Food prices fell 0.1 percent.
  • Fruit and vegetable prices fell 3.7 percent.  
  • Restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food prices remained unchanged.
  • Non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 0.9 percent.
  • Meat, poultry, and fish prices rose 0.8 percent.
  • Grocery food prices rose 0.6 percent.

From August 2009 to August 2010:

  • Food prices decreased 0.2 percent, marking the first time in 10 years that there have been annual falls in food prices for four consecutive months.
