Data to Decisions 

This course gives an overview of the process involved in producing statistical outputs. Over the two-day course, participants will:

  • get a high-level view of the general principles used in producing statistical outputs
  • get a high-level view of the end-to-end cycle in producing statistical outputs
  • complete a mini project to demonstrate the skills they have learned.

Statistical thinking

Statistical thinking underlies everything that we do at Stats NZ. This interactive workshop provides clear concepts and skills for statistical thinking. We examine the statistical enquiry cycle, the nature of datasets, variation across cases and time, graphical data exploration, the importance of contexts, and statistical communication with words, numbers and graphs.

The Art of Confidentiality

Preserving the confidentiality of respondents is of great importance to us. Stats NZ values utility of output, safety in managing the risks of disclosure to ensure confidentiality for respondents, simplicity and practicality in our methods and consistency of methods across collections and modes of output.

Introduction to ideas of sampling

The course aims to introduce participants to the concepts of sampling and give them a sufficient level of sampling design appreciation.
